Stem Cell Therapy

Pivotal Efficacy Study

This is a FDA pivotal trial to evaluate the effectiveness of allogenic fat derived stem cells for the control of clinical signs associated with arthritis in dogs.   This study is a double – blinded placebo – controlled randomized study.  This means that neither the owner nor I know which dogs get stem cells or placebo. If a dog receives placebo, s/he will then receive stem cells at the end of the 6 month study.  If your dog is eligible and completes the study, s/he will receive approximately $4,000 of care at no cost.

To be eligible for the study, dogs must meet the following requirements:

-arthritis with clinical signs in only ONE or TWO of the following joints





-radiographic confirmation of arthritis  within 60 days– we can do this at no charge

-be > 9 months old and weigh at least 5.5 pounds

-be in good general health

-not have cancer

-not have had surgery or anesthesia within the last 30 days and no planned surgery for the next 6 months

-not have had cruciate ligament or joint surgery within the last 90 days

-not have had acupuncture, chiropractic or laser class 3 or treatment within the last 20- days

-no previous stem cell therapy

-if on a joint specific diet, must be at least for 60 days

-non-joint diets must be fed for at least 14 days and continued throughout the study

-pain medications and joint supplements must be administered for at least 30 days prior to the study and continued for the entire 6 months of the study

-no intramuscular, intra-articular, intravenous , subcutaneous  Adequan glycosaminoglycans, hyaluronic acid steroids or blood products for at least 30 days prior to screening

-must be able to confirm persistent pain / lameness for at least 30 days

As a dog owner / guardian you need to be able to meet the following schedule of visits:

-initial screening

-Day 0 for sedation and injection of stem cells.  This is 2-14 days after the screening.

-Day 28 for examination and blood work

-Day 56 for examination and blood work

- Day 180 for examination and blood work

We will also communicate by phone or email on Days 14, 42, 74, 112, 140
